Gospel Doctrine - 40 Day Callenge, Take One Family Name to The Temple

The Gospel Doctrine class of Beacon Hill Ward, has been challenged with the task of finding a family name in their  genealogy, and preparing and taking that name to the temple.... all within 40 days!! Are you up for the challenge?

Where to Start?

You will need to open an account for https://familysearch.org/.

In order to make an account with Family Search you will need your member ID #. To get this number, ask the ward clerk to get it for you.

Once you get into Family Search, you can easily find your family tree. Once there you can add information, see who's names need to be found, find out which family members still need their temple work completed, and get your family names temple ready.

Family Involvement

If you would like to get the youth involved, they can visit lds.org/familyhistoryyouth. There are tutorials, inspiring stories, and help. How great would that be to make this a family event? The youth could do baptism for the dead for the family name, and the parents could take the name and do the rest of the temple ordinances.

Need Help?

If this already seems too overwhelming, step back and please get some help! Once you have gone through this process yourself, you will discover how easy it is. Ask a family member, ask a ward member, ask a youth who is computer savvy to help you figure it out (be sure they actually TEACH you and not just hurry and do it for you).

Also there are all sorts of video tutorials on Family Search to help you begin this journey.

Remember you can get all the information and help you need from start to finish, step by step, from our local Genealogical Library which is called the Grants Pass Oregon Family History Center. There are kind staff members there to help you step by step.
